The Road Less Traveled

One of my most treaured books is The Road Less Traveled, written by M. Scott Peck.  I have read this book no less than 15 time to date.  One of my favorite quotes from this book is “Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it-then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.”

Many years ago, dabbling in caligraphy as a hobby, I scribed this quote onto a piece of linen paper and framed it. Through the years, through the ups and downs of life, career, marriage, kids and business I find myself continually drawn back to this quote and find strength in reminding myself of this simple truth.  An expectation of easy will change our views into a realm of hardship and negativity that will result in self sabatoge.  An attitude and expectation that each and every day will be tough and requires strength changes our outlook and builds a mental foundation of inner determination and brings an ease in anticipation of what tomorrow will bring.

If you are so moved, buy this book and read it.  It can be life changing.
